Larissa Pearce - Why I Am Dancing with Dignity
Last October, one of my best friends, went into pre-term labor at Chandler Regional Medical Center and lost her daughter, Elle. It was incredibly difficult to see her and her family go through this tremendous loss. There was nothing to do but be there for her. The support given to her by the Perinatal Bereavement Team by providing her daughter with a dress and a blanket and providing support groups for her, along with the nurses who made bracelets with Elle’s name and a memory box with her hand and foot impressions, was beyond kind as they helped her navigate through this incredibly difficult time. A few weeks after this, I was able to attend last year’s event, where sitting in the audience I was brought to tears when I recognized a long time superintendent from our company, McCarthy, dancing on stage with the stroke survivors. It was amazing to see Larry dancing along to the 80’s music doing really well, after having suffered from a stroke at work just a couple of years back. Following the show, I was able to catch up with Larry and his wife, and they shared their experience and the results of the amazing programs for stroke patients that Larry had taken part in. I have seen first hand the amazing results of the programs Dignity offers, and am proud to support them.
Larry was my inspiration to take part in this year’s event, and I am dancing to honor baby Elle Martin, gone too soon. I am raising funds to continue the perinatal bereavement programs at Dignity Health that supported my friend, and too many other brave mothers, suffering the loss of a baby either from pre-term labor or miscarriage.
